If you’ve lived in Toronto anytime over the past decade, there’s a good chance you’ve spent a summer night tucked away on the patio of The Three Speed on Bloor Street. It’s been years since I’ve been, but it’s always been one of those perfect low-key summer spots — a little bit divey, charming, with a lush backyard patio that feels like a hidden oasis.
The menu is short and unfussy: mussels with baguette, a great burger, a charcuterie board to share with friends, and a drinks list that gets the job done (incredible Caesar if that’s your thing) . Fun fact — I actually had my first date with my husband there, so this place holds a soft, nostalgic corner in my heart.
Lately, as many of you know, I’ve been very pregnant. Cravings have been rare for me… until the other night when I was suddenly hit with the strongest craving for their seared salmon salad. It’s been a menu staple forever: a dijon and brown sugar–glazed salmon that’s both crispy and silky, perched on a crunchy salad of mixed greens, cucumber, apple, and herbs, with a tangy yogurt dressing. Light yet satisfying, it’s the kind of meal that feels like summer on a plate. (And if you’re not pregnant, it’s dreamy with a crisp glass of white wine.)
Since I couldn’t exactly pop over to the restaurant, I made my own riff at home with what I had on hand — and honestly? My whole family was impressed. It’s simple, fresh, and packed with flavour. Paired with some crusty bread, it makes a perfect low-key weeknight dinner.
